As I was leaving school one recent evening, I was jolted out of my thoughts in the most wonderful way! The huge mountain of snow at the edge of the parking lot was covered with happy children, laughing, climbing and flopping like colorful seals in their snow gear. This has been a long winter, especially lately. Grownups and even some kids have grown tired of the storms that have dumped piles of snow, blown over trees and downed power lines. While Medfield has fared pretty well overall, everyone has their "down" or grumbly moments. Sometimes it's hard to shift into a positive frame of mind amid all the grey ice and slush. What helps you lift drudgy spirits? For me, it's a simple exercise I try to do at least one time a day: COLLECT GRATITUDE !!! Taking time to note even the tiniest thing that you appreciate - something that catches your eye, makes you pause and smile or take in with a bit of wonder - can make a helpful shift in your mood or perspective. I find it therapeutic and very important, particularly during times of stress or sadness. Here are two simple ways to get in a little gratitude practice:
