Happy spring!!! The snowflakes have finally given way to not-quite-freezing raindrops. There are little leaves popping out on the apple trees lining the playground. A light at the end of this year’s chilly tunnel!
At this time of year, I often receive information from outside resources - spring and summer options for counseling or social skills groups, supportive opportunities for families dealing with social, behavioral, learning and/or mental health needs. I wanted to share a few of these here. One wonderful and free-of-charge resource available in this area is “Connecting Parents” - an organization provided by the MSPCC (Mass Association of Prevention for Cruelty to Children). You can check out their website here for a schedule and location of weekly support group meetings. Also available are “topic training” presentations that address specific areas of concern shared by many parents. Here is the latest: A Connecting Parents/MSPCC Topic Training “Ask the Prescribers” Monday, May 7, 2018 Conference Room, Canton Public Library 786 Washington Street, Canton, MA 6:30pm – 8:30 pm These workshops are sponsored by Connecting Parents, an MSPCC/Eliot CHS (Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children)/Eliot Community Human Services’ program funded by the MA Department of Mental Health. These trainings are free of charge and open to all parents and caregivers. Keynote Speakers: Meredith Richardson, Family Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Caitrin Salvucci, Adult Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Meredith received her BA degree in psychology from Washington University and worked in a group home with mentally ill children before deciding to become a nurse practitioner. Since receiving her Master’s Degree in Nursing from Boston College in 2010, Meredith has worked in outpatient settings doing both psychotherapy and medication management for all ages. She is mainly interested in working with children and their families to help them to improve life-long functioning through early intervention while maintaining her deep respect for the interconnectedness of the mind, the body, and the spirit. She currently sees patients at Atlantic Counseling and Consultation in Weymouth, MA. She loves to create art, be near the ocean, connect with her higher power and interact with her loved ones. Caitrin is a graduate of College of the Holy Cross, and of Boston College, where she received her Master's Degree in Nursing in 2010. After completing a post-graduate fellowship through Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, she managed medications for a large caseload of patients in their Behavioral Health department until 2013. Since then she has worked in a private group practice setting, (Atlantic Counseling and Consultation in Weymouth, MA) where she provides medication management and psychotherapy for adults and their families. Caitrin is familiar with a wide range of presenting problems, but is particularly interested in working with mood disorders, OCD, and PTSD. The combined experience, knowledge and expertise will give attendees an opportunity to increase their knowledge and understanding about medications and the relationship between what is presented to a prescriber during an appointment and the prescription given by a provider. In this presentation there will be a time for speakers to address the group, and a time for questions and answers. Questions must be general in nature, and answers will not be given that are specific to a child and his/her treatment with other providers. The intent of this meeting is for attendees to gain insight and understanding regarding the use of medications to treat patients for mental illnesses and emotional challenges. Light refreshments will be provided Contact Betty Wagner to register [email protected] or 617-983-5803 Registration is preferred, but walk-ins are welcome
